Trying new things

I’ve always loved being active and trying new things so when I was offered to try something new I jumped on the opportunity immediately. Today my boyfriend offered to take me to play tennis at a park nearby. The forecast was a bit cloudy but it was so humid outside that it didn’t make a difference.

Basics

I had never played tennis in my life; it was one of the few sports I hadn’t tried. There was a lot to be taught. I was firstly taught how to hold the racket, the different ways to hit the tennis ball, and the rules of the game.

Practice makes perfect

I’ve always been a quick learner, so I learnt the basics quickly. I was by NO means good at playing tennis today; however, I know that I enjoyed playing and will continue to play in the future. With a little bit of practice I’m sure I’ll improve over time.

Never Fail

Instead of getting frustrated at the fact that I wasn’t good at playing tennis, I laughed when I made a mistake, and continued to try. I am not one who gives up on things, I do not let obstacle get in my way of things. I know that tennis is not an easy sport for me to pick up on my first try, but I am confident in the fact that I will improve next time I play.

Weather

One thing that helped bring determination and concentration to tennis today was the weather. Just when it was starting to get too warm and muggy out, it started to rain. I love the rain! My favourite time to run outside is when it’s humid and raining. I found that the rain helped motivate me to continue. I know that may be a bit odd seeing as rain normally symbolises sadness, but to me it woke my senses, and brought energy to me; it made me happy. When the rain got too heavy to continue to play I went for a run.

I am happy I tried tennis today, and I hope to continue to play. Today was filled with fun and lively activities, and although I am very tiered now, it was completely worth it. Today, regardless of the rainy weather, was fantastic!

TORONTO CHALLENGE

Sunday June 14th, I attended the 18th annual Toronto Challenge. The Toronto Challenge was a 5 K walk or run followed by a 1 K walk. All the proceeds raised went towards helping today’s senior citizens by bettering long term care homes.  Hundreds of participants gathered on the gorgeous sunny day to do their part in improving homes for senior citizens and those in need.

All Ages

The variety of ages that participated was amazing. The youngest was a 3 month old who participated with his mother, and the oldest was a 100 year old lady who walked in her walker the entire 1K. The support and kindness that was shown amazed me. It made me feel great to know that so many people came to support.

Support

I am so pleased I had the opportunity to participate in this event my volunteering my time at the event. I helped with the set up and organization of the awards, as well as distributing them. Next year I hope to be able to participate myself.

UNIVERSITY

By Chelsae Durocher · June 11, 2009 · 0 Comments · 9 Views

School. What is it? It’s a place to learn, to earn credits towards employment. It’s a place to discover and try new things. School is an adventure.

Decisions

I spent 2 hours today going over class after class, trying to make myself the perfect school schedule. As a result I made three possible schedules. There is such an assortment of classes offered at the University that I could not decide which to pick. I love learning about a variety of things, and there is so much offered; from Introduction to French Literature to Introduction to Acting, I had to slowly narrow my choices down to five main courses.

After much deliberation over my three possible schedules, I chose the one I was going to stick with. It fits my mandatory classes in with my optional courses, and still allows me enough time to maintain my current work shifts. My mandatory classes this semester were Drama in the Classroom, and Improvisation and Self Development. My optional classes are Introduction to Psychology, Introduction to French Literature, and Introduction to Acting.

French

I went to a French elementary school, graduated high school with a bilingual diploma, and now have continued with a French minor in University. I am blessed that my parents chose to immerse me into the wonderful option our country has to offer, and put me into a French school. I love how our country is bilingual, and I’m very happy that I can proudly say I am fluent in French.  I hope to also learn to speak Italian, and who knows with the courses offered at the University I may just take an Intro to Italian class, why not?

Big Scary University

Going into University I was scared, my teachers all made it seem as though University was a make or break it towards my future. Now that I’m entering my second year of University I’ve realized that University is not something to be fearful of. There is nothing to be scared of; you are not stuck or glued to your decision of which program you’re in or which classes to take. There is no rush. University is not something that should be looked at as pressure, stressful, inflexible, or overwhelming. It is a place that is booming with opportunity. Yes, University is something that should be taken seriously; however, if you are willing to work hard, then University is a place where you can take risks and try new things.

I am not afraid of failure, as I know I give my best, and I am not afraid of trying new things.  I have three years left until I’ve completed my degree and within those three years I plan on getting the most out of University as possible. If I could choose one word to best describe University is would be DIVERSE. If I could choose one word to best describe my feelings towards the next three years at University it would be OPPORTUNISTIC.
