Summer Kick Off!

By Chelsae Durocher · June 29, 2009 · 0 Comments · 27 Views

Ever since I was a little girl I began my summer vacations by attending the Annual Fireworks held at the Detroit Riverfront. They have always been held on either the last day of class or the second last day, and they’re a blast (no pun intended). Along with the fireworks is the Carousel of the Nations Carnival, also known as the Freedom Fest; where there are rides, food, and games to play.

Memories

As a little girl I used to go with my mom, and I’ve made some amazing memories from those nights. As I grew older I began to go with a group of friends, where we’d have sleepovers and stay up late afterwards. Regardless of who I was going with, the fireworks have always symbolised the beginning of summer vacation to me, and they’re something I always look forward to.

This year the fireworks were held on Wednesday June 24th, and as promised, they were amazing. As the night approached the warm weather didn’t waver. The heat and humidity from the day continued into the night, making it perfect to sit outside.

Favorite

My favourite part of the fireworks is the beginning and the finale. The beginning because right before they’re about to begin 2 helicopters fly down the Riverfront with a Canadian and American flag. I don’t know why I like it so much but I enjoy knowing that just across the river there are hundreds of Americans sitting and doing the same as I. I feel almost unified with them at that moment. The ending I enjoy also because the amount of money and effort spent on these fireworks is incredible and the finale is always amazing.

This year there were a few differences however. One, my summer began in May not June. Two, the City of Windsor workers have been on strike for months. This means no lawn care, no garbage disposal, no bathroom cleaning etc. Thankfully the Red Bull Air Races were held in Windsor 3 weeks ago and they paid for the Riverfront to be cleaned and maintained for the time being. Had it not been for the Air Races, I can only imagine the disaster the Riverfront would’ve been in. Hopefully the City Strike will be over soon.

MTC-W Assignment 1: Super Chels

By Chelsae Durocher · June 24, 2009 · 1 Comment · 118 Views

Super Chels: Saving the world one day at a time!

What Would the Show Be?

If I was a star of my own TV show it would be a show aimed towards children, called Super Chels.  I would be a cartoon superhero setting a good example by defeating a variety of enemies, and of course saving the day.      (No Violence though)

How Would I Incorporate Sponsors?

I would incorporate 3 main sponsors into my show by making them the reason I have my powers. I would be able to fly thanks to my fantastic Air Plus Shoes. I would be able to protect and shield myself from the bad guys thanks to my Foxy Original Jewellery; which not only looks great on, but helps me by protecting me from whatever evil power my enemy may throw my way.  And of course every super hero must have an outfit which is easy to move in and easily covered by everyday clothing, which leads my secret, The Secret Panty Hose.  My superhero outfit would consist of more than panty hose; however, the panty hose are my favourite part of my outfit because they don’t run, they’re easy to move in, and I can always depend that they’ll keep my legs looking lean and beautiful on any adventure.

Why Be a Superhero?

I chose to be a superhero because superheroes are role models. They set good examples, and are looked up to by society. I feel that having a title, whether it’s representing your city, province, or country, you are looked up to by others. Being able to say I am Miss Teen Ontario, I believe that I am a role model, I am looked up to, and it’s my job to make sure I set a good example for others to follow, similar to being a superhero.

Other Sponsors

Although I have my 3 main sponsors which help fund my TV series, I would also incorporate smaller sponsors on different episodes. For Example: After defeating an evil villain I (Superhero Chelsae) sit down with Faze Magazine for an interview on my latest success. Or I could advertize them by saving the  John Frieda store from the Evil Fashion Burglar! There are a variety of ways I could also incorporate smaller sponsors, other than my main 3.

Will My TV Show Be a Hit?

Yes my TV show will be a hit, what kid doesn’t like superheroes!  Not only am I making it a fun show filled with action, but it’s also educational in the sense that I’m setting a good example for them, so their parents will approve.

Why a Children’s Show?

I chose to make my show a superhero show aimed towards kids because my platform is aimed towards kids. Also I believe that childhood is the most precious time in a person’s life. Childhood is the foundation to the rest of our lives, so it is crucial that kids have good examples in their life, and on TV.

Great Grand-Parents

Love through the ages

I am one of the few people I know of my age who can still say I have great grandparents. On my dad’s side of the family I have my grand pépé and grand mémé Bourque.  They are one of the cutest couples I know.  They have been together through so much and still have so much love for one another.

Age

My grand mémé has been living in a nursing home for a year now. She was only supposed to be there for a few months but the day that she was to be released my grand pépé suffered a heart attack. He spent 7 days in the hospital and they weren’t sure if he’d make it. He finally got better and tried to live on his own again but it was too much for him; so two months ago he too was admitted to the nursing home.

I went to visit them the other day to see how they were doing. I ended up learning a lot about them I hadn’t known previously. I learnt about how life was for my grand pépé when he first came to Windsor from Quebec.  I learnt about how he found work, how he dealt with the language barrier, and how he found a place to stay.  I am very pleased I got the opportunity to sit and talk with him and learn about how his life was when he was young.  I think family history is extremely important and I find it intriguing.

Life adjustments

Prior to living in the nursing home both my grand mémé and grand pépé lived very independent lives. They did not require any assistance other then each others, so for them to live in their current conditions it’s a huge life change. My mémé has adapted to it simply due to the fact that she has been there for a year; however, my pépé is having a harder time. He’s used to his life where he drove wherever, went for long walks etc. He is happy that he gets to be with his beloved wife now though, and for that reason he’s happy to be there.

My life

I hope that one day I will be as happy and in love as they are. They found the love of their lives and that’s apparent.  I am so happy I still have them in my life and am truly grateful for it. I admire them and look up to them; and hope to be similar to them when I'm of their age.
